On the steps of Plebiscito Square, you can experience the city life and history. The locals meet up here, looking at the sea, while they like to share their stories underground. At the foot of the statue of Pope Clemente XII, you can access the City Museum as well as the chronicle of Ancona's history.

WHAT TO SEE!
The entrance of the City Museum is at the foot of the statue of Pope Clemente XII. It is located in the evocative rooms of the ancient St Thomas of Canterbury Hospital and into the premises of the ex fish-market founded in 1817. Settled between the most prestigious square of Ancona, Plebiscito Square, and the maze of streets that separates the historical centre from the modern part of the city, the Museum is a historical account, a venue for events and educational activities. It covers an area of 600 sqm with a collection composed of four sections telling the history of Ancona from its origins until 1860. Archaeological finds, works of art, topographic maps and graphic reproductions describe the urban, social and cultural development of the city. The Museum usually offers thematic tours, educational activities and cultural-historical meetings focusing on the main themes of the city. Since 2018, the Museum has also been equipped with the OCULUS virtual reality viewer that allows you to take an interactive tour of Roman Ancona with the explanation of the archaeologist Ciriaco Pizzecolli (1391 - 1452).
